Valentina Reyes quit investigative journalism eighteen months ago. She didn't quit the instinct. Now she runs a travel channel — Escala Técnica — built on a simple idea: everyone else flies over these cities. She gets off the plane.

Five books, five cities, five hospitality assignments that were supposed to be easy. A restaurant. A lake cooperative. A hotel restoration. A beach festival. A casino. Each one paid, each one photogenic, each one hiding something she wasn't sent to find.

The people she meets rarely fit into hero or villain. A chef who cooks with real integrity, standing in a building whose history he never asked about. A festival that succeeds by every visible measure while the town underneath it quietly falls apart. Valentina doesn't get a confession. She gets a document that doesn't add up, a conversation that goes somewhere she didn't expect, a name that keeps resurfacing in places it shouldn't.

One name, specifically. It follows her from Mexico City to Guatemala to Buenos Aires to Lima, and by the time she gets home to Bogotá, she's not covering a story anymore. She's ending one.
